When you read a drawing on this site, the multiplier that was drawn belongs to that drawing the same way the balls do. A ticket's add-on only means something in combination with the multiplier its drawing produced, which is why our result cards keep them together.
That also means an old result keeps its old multiplier forever: archives show the value drawn that night, not a current one.
What it touches, and what it does not
The add-on multiplies set prize tiers below the top prize, according to each game's published prize rules; the jackpot itself is not multiplied. The exact tier tables are official-source material, and the game's own page is the place to read them.
The add-on costs extra per play, and whether it is worth it is a personal call about stakes — not a question with a hidden right answer.
It never changes the odds of matching
A multiplier changes what a matching ticket pays, never the chance of matching. The drawing's probabilities come from the ball pools — 69 and 26 for Powerball, 70 and 24 for Mega Millions in the current formats our records carry — and the add-on has no effect on any of them.
