My Cash 3 sum-range filter — an entertainment system, not a promise

Posted by @wheelhousebill

Root Post

Posting my summer revision since a few folks asked in the monthly threads. Up front, as always: this is entertainment and organization, nothing more — no filter changes the odds of a fair draw. What it changes is how many combinations I have to look at, which is the part I enjoy. Structured fields below, walk-through table after.

Filter walk-through, one week

Step Combos left
---- -----------
All straights 1000
Sum 9 to 18 ~660
Drop triples 650
My rotation 3

Structured Attachment

System
Sum-range filter
Game
Cash 3 (Ohio)
Version
v3, summer 2026
Rules
Keep straights whose digit sum lands between 9 and 18, drop triples, then rotate three boxed picks per week from what is left.
Example
Week of 7/6: kept 126, 345 and 780 (sums 9, 12 and 15), played each as a fifty-cent box.
Backtest/tool
No backtest tool is linked — none exists in this build, and no link is invented.
Assumptions
Assumes you enjoy the bookkeeping. The filter narrows how many combinations I look at; it does not change what the machine draws.

This is a member method or historical research workflow. It does not guarantee future wins.

It does not, and I want to be plain about that: the odds are identical for every combination, filtered or not. What it wins me is time and tidiness. I keep a results sheet against my own picks for fun, and it lands where chance says it should.

Love how tidy this is. I borrow the sum idea for my Pick 3 sheets.

You math folks amaze me. I will stick to birthdays, but WTG on the write-up.

Honest question — does running a filter like this actually win more over a year?

I respect that you say that out loud, Bill.

Same. Systems as a hobby, not a promise — that is the spirit of this whole board.
