How FIREBALL works on a Pick 3 ticket
The replacement mechanic, the three combinations it creates, and why its prize is separate.

FIREBALL is an add-on, not a play type. It cannot be bought on its own, it doubles the cost of every panel on the ticket, and it is available with both the 50-cent and the $1.00 play.
It replaces a drawn digit — it is not a fourth digit
A FIREBALL number is drawn alongside the three Pick 3 digits. On a ticket that includes FIREBALL, that number may take the place of any one of the three drawn digits. Because there are three positions it could replace, it produces three additional winning combinations for the same drawing.
If the drawing produced 3-7-8 and the FIREBALL number was 9, the three FIREBALL combinations are 9-7-8, 3-9-8 and 3-7-9. Your ticket is then compared against each of them under its own play type.
A FIREBALL prize is separate from a base prize
You can win with FIREBALL without winning the base game, and you can win both on the same ticket. The two are settled independently, and the FIREBALL prizes are their own smaller schedule: a Straight play pays $100.00 at 50 cents or $200.00 at $1.00, a 3-way box $34.00 or $68.00, a 6-way box $17.00 or $34.00, and a pair play $10.00 or $20.00.
More than one FIREBALL win is possible
Because the created combinations are allowed to duplicate each other, a single ticket can collect more than one FIREBALL prize on the same drawing. The Florida Lottery publishes a maximum per play type — three for a Straight play, two for a 6-way box, four for a 3-way Straight/Box.
What it changes and what it does not
FIREBALL adds combinations to a drawing that has already happened, for a ticket that already exists. It does not alter the drawing, and it doubles the ticket price to do it.
